July 18th I photographed one of my favorite artists, John Hammond. Another Friday night at a great venue, The Bearsville Theatre. I first saw John Hammond play at the Clearwater Revival Festival in the mid 70's. He played 4 times that weekend and I sat directly in front of hime each time. It literally affected me so deeply that I have no trouble saying it changed my life. I soon began seeking out the older black musicians that literally invented the music that John interprets and plays so well. The feelings conveyed to the listener through traditional blues music are in all of us. This type of music speaks directly to my soul and I am very lucky to have been exposed to it at a young age by such a strong, gracious, respectful and true perveyor of this American art form. Nuff said. Check out the pics, John Hammond and The Bearsville Theatre.
